Haute Couture at Cristóbal’s Balenciaga

In July, the house of Balenciaga will show its first haute couture collection in over 50 years. Creative director Demna Gvasalia will be picking up right where Cristóbal Balenciaga himself left off since he shuttered his atelier—and Balenciaga’s couture production—in 1968. Throughout his 50-year tenure at the helm of Balenciaga, Cristóbal mastered the craft of couture and broke sartorial boundaries like no other. The Spanish-inspired elegance, sculptural structure, and eye-popping silhouettes of Cristóbal’s creations not only garnered industry clout and a star-studded waiting list, but cemented the designer as a master and pioneer of couture as we know it today.
