Rodarte Bids Farewell To New York Fashion Week

The next upset to the Fashion Week calendar comes courtesy of Kate and Laura Mulleavy. The sister duo behind Rodarte have announced plans to bypass their usual New York show slot in favor of an overseas move to Paris. In lieu of a full switch, Rodarte will host a private presentation in the French capital for Fall 2017 in February, before staging a traditional runway show for Spring 2018 in July during Couture Week. The brand will also add a third collection to their repertoire—most likely in the form of a resort-type range.

The news comes at a time when Paris’ hold on Fashion Week tightens. New York is often criticized for being too commercial—perhaps due in part to its early adoption of the see-now, buy-now runway concept—and the show schedule in London and Milan appears to be cut shorter every season. For now, there’s no telling if Rodarte has plans on becoming a more permanent Parisian fixture, but their presence in New York for the next two seasons will surely be missed.
