According to a report by WWD this morning, Virgil Abloh could potentially succeed Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy. The Off-White designer, who also heads up Kanye West’s creative team, is said to be in discussions with the French house following Tisci’s official exit as creative director last week following 12 years in the role.
Neither Givenchy or Abloh have confirmed or denied the rumors, but speaking to the media outlet, Abloh stated that taking a lead position at a storied luxury house is a career goal. “My trajectory is to update and provide something new in the fashion industry by way of creating a project and using it as a case study on how to update a luxury house,” he said to WWD.
A trained architect and engineer, Abloh first made waves on the music scene as a DJ and a close friend of Kanye’s. In 2013, he launched Off-White which gained an instant cult following among streetwear devotees and in 2015, he was named a finalist for the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers alongside Demna Gvasalia and Simone Porte Jacquemus.
