KNWLS London excitedly returned to London Fashion Week on Saturday, with a show aptly themed “Adrenaline,” that’s desert-biker, metalhead, and military wife” inspired. The venue was a dim underground car park near Oxford Circus, which set the stage for the darker earth tones and clean architecture worn by the spotlighted models.
Championed by It-girls Dua Lipa, Caroline Polacheck, and the sisters Hadid, the South London label takes quintessential early aughts grunge-fairy, body-conscious styles, like low rise pants, bell sleeves and hems, flame-like ruffle accents, and printed mesh layers, with 1970s and 1990s influences, and fuses with modern feminine structuring and unexpected cutouts.
For Spring 2022, designers Charlotte Knowles and Alexander Arsenault return with signature strappy bustier tops and bodysuits, plaid light-as-a-feather fabrics, and lace-up detailing, with influences of westernwear from cowboy hats by Anja Maye to flowing fringe. KNWLS layers softness with structure, with brown leather bodice dresses, ribbed bomber jackets, and gritty suede, which feature a splattered oil grease motif.
The designers tapped jeweler Marco Panconesi to create large bohemian earrings and bracelets with long, draping crystals, that were dipped in enamel from reignited Swarovski crystals, and “stone explosion” ear cuffs and rings. KNWLS also introduces snakeskin bags and shoes, in hot pink and sandy nude.
