After a two-year-long hiatus brought on by the pandemic, Miami’s Art Basel is back in full force for 2021. The Swiss fair which first launched in America in 2002 has merged the worlds of fashion, art, and design in an annual bazaar that spans across the city in the form of several museum exhibitions, star-studded parties, and immersive experiences. Saint Laurent Rive Driote Dinner Honoring Sho Shibuya

Anthony Vaccarello kicked off this year’s Miami Art Basel with Zoë Kravitz, Hailey Bieber, Amber Valletta, Olivia Rodrigo, and more with an intimate dinner celebrating the start of the annual event and the house’s latest collection. Celebrating a return to Basel, Saint Laurent partnered with New York-based artist Sho Shibuya for the next installment of the house’s Rive Droite Ephemeral Gallery project celebrating the 55th anniversary of Saint Laurent’s first boutique opening in Paris. 55 paintings are housed in a beachfront gallery on Miami’s 17th street beach each depicting gradient sunsets over the past year painted over copies of The New York Times.

Faena Art Afterparty with Jean Paul Gaultier

During Miami Art Basel, the Faena hotel is one of the many buzzing hubs. On Tuesday night, the hotel celebrated the opening of Pilar Zeta’s “Hall of Visions” installation setup on Faena’s beach overlooking the ocean. The grand opening of Zeta’s sculptural work was followed by a theatrical late-night party at Faena’s theater with Jean Paul Gaultier. Drag star Violet Chachki was the star of the night taking the stage for a special burlesque performance before guests hit the dancefloor.

Chanel N°5 The Right Number 100th Anniversary Light Show

The 100th anniversary of the iconic Chanel N°5 fragrance continues on in a unique experiential celebration for Art Basel 2021. The evening’s events welcomed guests to an intimate cocktail party set up at Faena Beach where invitees were able to view the captivating light show. Chanel’s lucky talismans like the camellia, Place Vendôme, and double C monogram illuminated the night sky showing the universe of symbolism which has defined the house, and in turn, the world’s most popular fragrance.

Prada and YoungArts 40th Anniversary Cocktail Event

Joined by Sarah Arison, Blake Gray, Jessica Wang, Alexander Roth, and more, the event was held at Prada Miami Design District with YoungArts board members, donors, and artists. Prada is once again supporting YoungArts again this year, their relationship beginning in 2018, at the Prada Mode event. Celebrating YoungArts’ central mission of creative and professional development of young literary and visual artists, the guests shared their stories for the 40th anniversary of the organization. At the event, 10% of all Prada purchases were donated to YoungArts in support of their mission.

Jean Thierry Besins Exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art

The visual artist Jean Thierry Besins’ latest art installation at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami consisted of a three-act performance to celebrate his sculpture, CLIMAX, a 13-foot-tall radiator made of recycled stainless steel and is supported by the Prince of Monaco Foundation, ICA Miami, and the De la Cruz Foundation. The performances were intentionally disturbing and surreal, with themes of censorship and modern media. Consisting of three different acts, the performances varied from the artist entering in an ambulance on a stretcher with a gag in his mouth, to running up and down the stairs nude. The piece CLIMAX allows the viewer to fundraise for One Tree Planted, a reforestation organization that dedicates every dollar to one tree.

Loewe Celebrates Artist Florian Krewer’s New Book

Held at Miami South Beach’s iconic Twist nightclub in collaboration with Gayletter, the event consisted of music by DJ Kindness and DJ Pascal Moscheni, as well as an impressive attendee list, with LOEWE creative director Jonathan Anderson, Ricky Martin, Duckwrth, Victoria Siddall, and more. The book portrays the paintings of the New York-based, German artist Florian Krewer, an upcoming voice in contemporary painting and culture. His paintings explore themes of conflicts and desires in public spaces of cities, with chaotic characters and sexually charged energy, which inspired the LOEWE Spring/Summer 2022 men’s collection. Krewer’s book is now available at select Loewe stores with 50 percent of proceeds donated to the International Trans Fund.

RIMOWA Celebrates As Seen By Exhibition at Soho Beach House Miami

Pack your bags, we’re headed to Miami—RIMOWA style. Following the house’s series in Paris as a platform of highlighting rising artists, RIMOWA brought a new collection of talent to their sleek Miami Design District store for Miami Art Basel. The one-of-a-kind works by six North American artists (Maxwell Arkin, Sean Brow, Benjamin Edgar, Nicole McLaughlin, Noel Mercado and Emmett Moore) and six global artists (Fabian Bergmark, Niceworkshop, Dorian Renard, Klemens Schillinger, Michal Sycz, and Tim Teven) pulled from the house’s Paris exhibition reimagine RIMOWA’s iconic aluminum suitcase design in abstract ways. RIMOWA celebrated its Miami exhibition with an oceanside event at Soho Beach House’s tent with DJ sets by Siobhan Bell, Hank Orsan and Rich Medina.

Balmain Joins (RED) Live Nation and Chivas

Balmain collaborated with longtime partners of the house (Red) and Live Nation to kick off Miami’s Art Week with a contemporary installation by French-Swiss artist Saype. He’s known for unique and wondrous creations that combine street imagery and art, which he presents temporarily until they fade away, in thought-provoking conversation about environmentalism and social activism. On Miami’s large Atlantic beach, Saype premiered his large fresco entitled “All of Us” to mark World AIDS Day, hosted by Balmain at the Balmain Pavilion, with offerings from Chivas and Perrier Jouet. Artists, influencers, and art lovers came together to embrace Saype’s work and to lift (RED)’s message of empowerment and hope towards AIDS and COVID action.

Givenchy’s Design District Boutique Event

On December 1st, Givenchy opened the doors of its Miami Design District boutique to celebrate Art Week with window animations by American artist Chito, who collaborated with creative director Matthew M. Williams. These special items created by the duo were showcased at the boutique at the event to commemorate the fashion house’s enthusiasm for celebrating the arts and all kinds of artistic creation. The window displays feature the Givenchy emblem with Chirp’s signature “Pup” character that was a star of the Spring 2022 collection.
