Minimalist beauty was spotlighted tonight at the Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter 2019 show. Although the designer has gone for bare-faced beauty in the past (choosing to put no makeup at all on models in 2015), this is the first time he’s debuted no makeup makeup. Focused on emphasizing the natural beauty of each model, lead makeup artist Diane Kendal created individual looks for all thirty models accentuating glowing skin complimented with a subtle contrast around the lash line.
Kendal also gave a preview of three new Marc Jacobs products in action: the Youthquake Gel Creme Moisturizer, Accomplice Concealer, and Instant Blurring Beauty Powder. “We’re just doing really gorgeous skin, brushing up eyebrows and filling in where they need to be filled in” she tells CR backstage. “Accomplice Concealer and Powder are what we’re using to create that soft finish to the face.”
Kendal alternatively used lip products for the face this season to give a naturally blended finish to the skin. She dabbed Marc Jacobs In the Mood Lipstick on the cheeks and a sheer lip balm in lieu eyeshadow and highlighter for an effortlessly dewy look.
Hair maestro Guido Palau kept hair simple this season by creating soft, undone looks that just about anyone can recreate at home.”We have done very full-on hair statement looks for Marc in the past few seasons. It’s the ease of these looks that can be slightly reactionary,” he tells CR. “Marc is about style. He loves stylish women, so even though it’s not this graphic style, there’s still a lot of style. It’s one that’s much easier to understand.”
Palau played with the hairline this season in response to the emphasis on hats in the collection. “We’re doing very soft hairlines with little fluffy bits sticking out. It gives the hair a bit of personality to it,” he says.
Lead nail artist Jin Soon Choi used a shine and buff method to make the nails natural and clean-looking. She recommends buffing the nails before shining them. “It looks healthier and more maintained than just filing your nails,” Choi says.
