As far as we know, there’s no such thing as effortless beauty. From facial treatments that leave your skin dewy and luminous to the perfect winged eyeliner, experts reveal their most-trusted, insider hacks for CR’s new series, Beauty Secrets.

Hair maestro Jen Atkin has her days cut out for her. In-between styling A-list models and clientele, including both Gigi and Bella Hadid and the entire Kardashian clan, for fashion week shows and red carpet events, Atkin is helming her own cult-favorite hair-care line, Ouai, collaborating with Dyson, and creating content for aspiring hair pros on Mane Addicts. More recently, Atkin just launched four new Ouai fragrances inspired by her favorite cities around the world and hosted a series of Mane U x Dyson classes in New York (with two more coming in San Francisco and L.A.) to share her blowout tricks with the masses free of charge. Here, CR caught up with Atkin to learn more about her coveted beauty secrets.

What’s the best remedy to a bad hair day?
„The key to low maintenance styling starts with your tools. I hate the misconception that beautiful hair takes all day to achieve. It’s not true! You don’t need a glam squad to look your best. I tell all my clients and followers that the Dyson Supersonic is key for quick-styling because it’s so smart. The focused airflow cuts down on styling time, the nozzles are easy to change, and its temperature self-monitors so that it never causes heat damage. In the same way, every single Ouai product is created specifically for the girl-on-the-go. I usually spray Ouai Leave-In before I blow dry. If my hair is oily, I use Ouai Dry Shampoo Foam and if I need texture I add Ouai Dry Texture Foam to my ends and work my way up. I swear, you’ll have the best hair of your life, smell amazing, and be out in five minutes or less.“

Any secret beauty hacks?
„I bought an ice roller for that I saw on Geri Hirsch’s Instagram and put in the refrigerator, because it adds to the cooling and de-puffing effect.“

What’s something most people don’t know about hair?
„Take care of your hair health. Haircuts are only necessary two to three times a year as long as you are taking care of your hair in the meantime with the right supplements, hair masques, and daily care. Use the Ouai Treatment Masque at least once a week for deep restoration. The masque is designed to combat constant heat styling and chemical damage, leaving strands soft and smooth after just one use.“

Walk me through your daily beauty routine.
„For skincare, I use Dr. Dennis Gross Peel Pads every day and Sunday Riley Luna Oil at night. I love The Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask because it rehydrates my skin to another level and I’m obsessed. I apply it on planes and on days where I need to look alive, because it removes any puffiness and gives me the hydration I need. I use the KNC eye masks at night to help reduce any puffiness and any fine lines since it’s infused with all-natural retinol. I also swear by Dr. Ourian Epione Firm and Fade, which has hydrocortisone, and makes it so I don’t get breakouts and helps with my melasma a lot.“

Any go-to makeup products?
[For face, I use] Kevyn Aucoin Foundation, Tom Ford Contour with the TF Contour brush, YSL Powder, Charlotte Tilbury Blush with the Surratt Blush brush, Glossier highlighter, Bliss water spray, and Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz or Eyebrow Gel. [For eyes, I like to use] the Surratt eyelash curler, Kyshadow eyeshadow, Nars brown eyeshadow, Sephora Kohl eyeliner, YSL Liquid liner, Kiss lashes, and Huda beauty lashes.“

You’ve recently expanded Ouai to fragrance and body scrubs. Do you see any other skincare products for the future?
I’m super excited about Ouai Fragrances. We received an unbelievable number of DMs from our community to make scents that they could actually wear. I worked really hard crafting the perfect scents, inspired by fine fragrances with the team at Givudaun. We were shocked and excited about how successful the Scalp and Body Scrub was! As for the future, we have some exciting launches in the works. We can’t reveal specifics just yet!“
