Gosha Rubchinskiy’s Pitti Uomo Debut

Last night in Florence, Gosha Rubchinsky presented his fifth collection. The Moscow-based designer dedicated Menswear Spring 2017 to the spirit of change and sought inspiration from the excitement of being invited to present for the first time-ever at Pitti Uomo in Italy. The show took place at Manifattura Tabacchi—an abandoned ‘30s tobacco factory that was purposefully selected because of its resemblance to a number of locations in and around Europe, and Russia’s-bordering, Eastern Bloc.
Translated literally, this equated to a collection that married Gosha’s Russian roots with Pitti Uomo’s storied heritage. The Italian side was represented by special collaborations with native sportswear labels Fila, Kappa, Sergio Tacchini, and Supergra, as well as Milanese eyewear company, Retrosuperfuture. The Russian side was clear in Gosha’s trademark Soviet design aesthetic and Lotta Volkova’s styling of the show. Relating to neither of these, was a separate tier of collaboration with Levi’s. Gosha worked with the denim brand to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of two of its classic styles: the Type III Trucker and the 505.
