Pyer Moss releases the next installment in its Experiment shoe series today, this time with an accompanying social justice initiative. The luxury brand has partnered with the Innocence Project for the new Experiment 4 sneaker, with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the nonprofit dedicated to exonerating wrongly convicted individuals within the prison system.
With the nonprofit’s message in mind, Creative Director Kirby Jean-Raymond’s design for the Experiment 4 sneaker was inspired by a journey of success. The shoe’s mudguard utilizes protective rubberized leather and TPU to protect the rest of the shoe, representing those who rise above societally imposed boundaries. The second section, consisting of the heel, toe, lateral, and medial sides, embodies the vision of success and glamour with luxury knit and gems. The third and final layer, which makes direct contact with the wearer, stands for emotion, with deconstructed soft materials creating the inner tongue, outer tongue, and shoe’s lining.
Jean-Raymond and his brand have advocated for social issues, particularly the Black Lives Matter movement, on the runway since 2015. With this new partnership, the designer continues to pave the way for social advocacy awareness in the fashion world. Along with Pyer Moss’ pledge to the Innocence Project, the brand is encouraging the public to make contributions of their own with a dedicated donation page.
The Pyer Moss Experiment 4 Innocence Project sneaker will be available online from July 3, 2020 at 12 p.m. EST.
