The Most Memorable Runway Moments from the ’90s

Oh the ‘90s. What a time to be alive. Especially if you followed fashion.

It was the decade in which multiple styles―from minimalism to avant-garde to over-the-top couture and grunge―reigned all at once. It was the heyday of the supermodels, with Kate, Naomi, Linda, and Christy gracing nearly every runway. It was also the period in which icons like John Galliano, Stella McCartney, and Tom Ford took over major houses (Dior, Chloe, and Gucci, respectively), while brands like Alexander McQueen and Miu Miu launched.

But most importantly, it was the decade in which fashion shows went mainstream, in the sense that thanks to television, the presentations were no longer exclusive to the industry. As such, the way designers presented their collections became more intricate, and more theatrical. It was arguably the first time that runway “moments” started to exist, and we’ve gathered some of the best. Relive them all in the slideshow above.
