For the first time, Azzedine Alaïa will open a flagship boutique outside of France. His new London location will span over 6,000 square feet in the city’s Mayfair neighborhood on New Bond Street. The neighborhood will also see the opening of Moncler, and Thom Browne stores in the coming months, and a Chloé store will open down the street from Alaïa later this summer.

The designer had his first renaissance in the late ’80s and early ’90s when his figure- hugging dresses became an overnight sensation among fashion industry insiders, earning him the nickname ‘King of Cling.’ Following the death of his sister in the mid-nineties he took a prolonged hiatus from his work.

Alaïa made a comeback in 2000, selling partial ownership of his company to Prada. By 2007 he was so successful that he was able to buy his brand back, and now has full ownership over the business. When other brands began to focus on their more lucrative and accessible leather goods and fragrance divisions, Alaïa chose to remain focused on ready-to-wear.

There’s no word yet on when the flagship will open, but the store’s address will be 139 New Bond Street.
