In landmark news, L’Oreal Paris has tapped Hari Nef as the face of its True Match foundation. The transgender model joins long time ambassadors Lara Stone, Blake Lively, Xiao Wen Ju, as well as Darnell Bernad, Sabrina Karlsson, and more in the cosmetic giant’s most diverse ad campaign yet. The televised commercial was revealed during the 74th annual Golden Globes awards ceremony last night and fetes an extended range of True Match foundation, which has been widened to suit a total of 33 skin tones.
Transgender models Lea T and Andreja Pejic have previously starred in campaigns for Redken and Make Up For Ever respectively, but this is the first time that L’Oreal Paris has cast a transgender model in one of its ads. Four days ago, Maybelline made history when it announced Manny Gutierrez as its first-ever male spokesmodel, and the news of Nef’s new gig will undoubtedly come as a relief to the many who share our concerns that diverse casting like this is long overdue.
