Pantone has announced that a vibrant yellow-green shade called ‘Greenery’ is the Color of 2017. The institution chooses a color to represent each coming year annually based on what it sees as being reflective of the world’s general mood and trends in global culture. The newly selected shade is said to symbolize new beginnings and takes a bold departure from the colors of 2016’s, which were two pastel shades called ‘Serendipity’ and ‘Rose Quartz.’

“Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone’s executive director in an official statement. She added that the color satisfies “our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize,” and that “greenery symbolises the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.”

‘Greenery’ first made an appearance on Pantone’s Top 10 color selections for Spring 2017 (which was published in September of this year), after it gained traction in fashion collections on runways in Europe. At Balenciaga, Demna designed a floral print against a vibrant green background, and the color was also seen at Prada and Shiatzy Chen.
