Bottega Veneta’s New It-Bags Take on A Whole New Shape

“Why carry a handbag?” you may ask. “Nonetheless an It-bag?” Especially since we’re still nestling indoors for most of the day, with no significant outing that’ll slot a time to show them off. A run to the grocery store hardly requires accessorizing and the pandemic purse essentials – wallet, check; mask and sanitizer, double checked – don’t require much baggage. Yet if there’s one designer convincing those otherwise, it’s Bottega Veneta’s Daniel Lee, whose handbags for the house have transformed into coveted accessorizes resting on the shoulders and cradled in the arms of celebrities (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Instagrammed the Bottega Veneta Pouch 39 times in three months), influencers, and fashionphiles. And now, there’s a new It-bag on the market ready to trail its trendsetting predecessors. Introducing the “Point” bag.

Featured in Bottega Veneta’s Salon 01 Collection, the design isn’t completely new as it is refreshed. It revisits the synonymous, modest cinched structure that comes either smoothed over or weaved, but also features a structural triangular handle that mirrors minimalist and sophisticated geometry. It’s no shock that it’s already found its way into the hands of profile persona and Bottega Veneta enthusiast Hailey Bieber, who wore her black “Point” bag with two sporty yet very streetwear-esque looks.

Bieber’s styling is one of the many ways the accessory can be worn as it comes in two sizes (the regular and the “small point”), and a very Bottega Veneta palette of colorful hues from rich mustard, eggplant, and teal to the springy green and salmon alongside neutrals like black, white, and beige.

Bottega Veneta is a brand of tradition and simplicity, its considerate elimination of logos in exchange for distinctive artistry an element that has made its pieces desirable. Daniel Lee’s ability to incorporate the house’s signature intrecciato weave – a design worked into items like the “Pouch“, an intricate bundle of technique (alongside its smoother rendition), and the “Cassette Bag“, a pillowy and bubbly accessory – into these elements have made the two popular and slightly elite. The former in particular has been a must-have for other big name celebrities such as Rihanna and Salma Hayek. Perhaps it was their influence or the chic ease conveyed by the pieces themselves, but the “Pouch” earned popularity even among ordinary consumers as indicated by the 297% increase in Lyst page views in 2019, the same year Bottega Veneta was titled one of the “hottest brands” in The Lyst Index.

So, as we make our way back into “normal living”, you may want to take to the streets in stride, holding an It-bag right by your side.

The “Point” bag is available for purchase on the Bottega Veneta website.
