The Fashion Trust Arabia awards claimed five winners Tuesday for its annual event that supports fashion designers across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The FTA honored designers Omer Asim for ready-to-wear, Yousef Akbar for evening wear, Andrea Wazen for accessories, Ammanii for jewelry, and Zeid Hijazi, a recipient of the Franca Sozzani Debut Talent Award.

Selected from a pool of 25 finalists, the winners were hand picked by a jury of fashion trailblazers including Diane Von Fürstenberg, Christian Louboutin, Alber Elbaz, Giambattista Valli, and Olivier Rousteing, to name a few. Adjusting to the current circumstances, the judging process was held via Zoom conference sessions.

Each winner will receive 0,000 in support as well as guidance from program mentors. Additionally, each designer has an opportunity to sell their Spring/Summer 2021 collections on Matchesfashion.com.

“What is really inspiring and special about this year’s Awards is how much they highlight the diversity of talent that the MENA region holds. We had the pleasure of meeting such inspiring individuals from 13 Arab countries who, even in the most testing of times, showed their drive, passion, and creativity,” the program’s co-founder Tania Fares said.

Alongside the winning awards, Fashion Trust Arabia is also launching a social media campaign through the hashtag #StandWithCreatives to raise funding to ease the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The hashtag spreads awareness of MENA region talent, while building a fund available to MENA designers.
