Thom Browne and Samsung Unveil New Stylish, Foldable Smartphone

On the final day of New York Fashion Week, something new unfolded: a partnership between Samsung and fashion label Thom Browne, and with it, a designer device that literally unfolds. The newly unveiled Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition is a smartphone formed from the exclusive collaboration between one of the world’s leading tech companies and the New York fashion brand. It features an innovative, foldable touch screen display, backed with Thom Browne’s signature red, white, and blue stripes. A limited quantity of the devices will be available, officially launching in March.

The big reveal came with a live performance presented at Sotheby’s New York. Inspired by the unique collaboration of both brands, the performance focused on time, work, and transformation. Set in a midcentury office theme, complimentary to the design of the new phone, suited individuals sat at typewriters only to be interrupted by interactions with the new device. The choreographed presentation began with repetitions of the phrase “I’m not ready yet” and finished with “I am ready now,” suggesting the collaboration’s idea of transformation.

Merging pioneering technology with Thom Browne’s visual identity, the Galaxy Z Flip boasts the brand’s classic grey color and tricolor stripe, mimicking the tailored suits it is known for. App icons are labelled in classic text, and the sound cues, from typewriter clicks to analogue ringtones, adds to the nostalgic feeling of the old-time flip phones, evoking the aural landscape of the office worker.

Adding to the collaborative Galaxy Z Flip comes a Thom Browne edition Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Buds+. The watch comes with an exclusive face and two straps: tricolor and classic black, while the earbuds are decorated in signature Thom Browne colors, nestled in a sleek grey cradle that matches the Galaxy Z Flip.

The Galaxy Z Flip Thom Browne Edition will be available for pre-order online from February 14, 2020.
