Prada is launching an original capsule collection, “Prada Poster Girl,” of screen printed T-shirts and sweaters in select boutiques this week. The aesthetic aligns with its ready-to-wear that was influenced by 1970s era fashion—if you recall, the show space was lined with poster art by American illustrator Robert McGinnis who created iconic film posters for Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Barbarella.
Each piece features an applied print with erotic imagery and captions like “Velvet Knife,” “Desert Rose,” or “The Lion House.” Much of the collection serves as a direct response to Muiccia Prada’s willingness to be more political on the runway. For Fall 2017, she partnered with architect Rem Koolhaas and his AMO studio to produce a show setting that served as a manifesto of sorts. Without being too overt, the notorious designer quietly got her message across.
“Prada Poster Girl” will be available for purchase at Prada’s flagships stores and online at prada.com starting today.
