Now Casting: Mijo Mihaljcic

Despite always being confused for a Brazilian due to her name, subtly sun-kissed, chiseled features and straight dark brown hair, 23 year-old Mijo Mihaljcic is actually Serbian-born. “It’s funny, almost every person I meet asks me the same question: ‘How was Brazil this summer, did you enjoy it back home?” Whatever your assumption of her nationality, there’s no denying that Mijo is bonafide top model material. She walked in over 50 shows in her first 2013 Fashion Week season and has been steadily climbing the ranks ever since. Her celebrity crush is Novak Djokovic and she would like to play herself in a movie. Meet Mijo:

First memory of fashion:
“I was 14 when I first walked down the runway in Serbia. After the show, I ran to my mom, grabbed her hand and said: ‘I want to be a model!’ Ever since then, I’ve been living that dream.”

What was the first runway show you walked in and what do you remember about it:
“My first show was that one in Serbia, and I did a few others there too, but nothing compares to after I decided to approach IMG in 2013. I walked in and they signed me on the spot. Almost immediately after, they sent me to New York, London, Milan, and Paris for Fashion Week. I was hoping to get at least one show, but I ended up doing over 50.”

What is your favorite modeling career moment (so far) and why:
“It’s hard to favor only one moment because I’ve had the chance to work with so many brilliant people. I really love doing shows, but I also love being in front of the camera.”

Favorite designers and why:
“I feel lucky that in a past two years I’ve had the chance to meet, know, and work with some of the biggest names in the fashion industry. It’s inspiring to see how strong, creative, and magical so many people are.”

Who are your role models:
“My role model has always been Gisele. I love how beautiful, strong, professional, and smart she is. She’s also a mom and a business woman, both of which I aspire to be in the future.”

What is the best modeling advice you ever received and who gave it to you:
“I think the best advice for every model is the same thing: Try not to take things personally. Our career is based on how we look and so sometimes you have to realize that you can’t do everything.”

Favorite beauty trick:
“Cucumber. It freshens skin, calms down swollen eyes, moisturizes, and helps everything glow.”

What projects do you have on the horizon:
“I went to university to study law; I only have two years left to go, so I’d like to finish that. I’m also hoping to take some acting classes as I’ve come to the realization that I love being in front of the video camera.”

Where do you see yourself in ten years:
“In ten years I see myself as a mom. I don’t know where my modeling career or anything else will be, but I can see myself with a handsome husband, surrounded by kids and dogs.”

Which actor or actress would play you in a movie:
“I would like to play myself in a movie, but if not I love Jennifer Connelly. A lot of people say we look alike and I really admire how graceful she is.”

Who is your celebrity crush:
“Novak Djokovic.”

Who is your favorite makeup artist and hairstylist:
“Whenever I get a chance to work with Pat McGrath, Peter Phillips, and Tom Pecheux, I’m so happy. They’re all magicians!”

What’s your most embarrassing moment:
“Right now, when I revealed my celebrity crush.”

What do you do to stay in shape:
“I have a personal trainer called Josh Holland and then I also do yoga and pilates. I’m about to start boxing—I’m quite nervous, but excited about it. Aside from exercise, I’ve found that the most important factor in order to stay in shape is what you eat and how you eat. Luckily, junk food has never been my thing and I’ve always liked to treat myself well. Sleeping well is also key to looking good.”
