When you visit your local laundromat, you’re probably not throwing in a load of your finest silk scarves. Hermés, on the other hand, plans to do just that with the opening of its temporary pop-up “laundromat” shop called Hermèsmatic. From June 14th to 18th, the shop will provide an interactive dip-dying program, which asks the public to bring in their shelved Hermès scarves to try the completely complementary service.
If you don’t happen to own any of the brand’s signature silk, vintage Hermés scarves will be available to purchase on site. Also for sale are already dip-dyed scarves that are unable to be dipped twice, however.
It’s one scarf per guest, and the color options range are Fuschia, Violet, and Denim Blue. The dying process can take up to 48 hours, at which time the scarves are then hand delivered to customers.
After debuting in Paris, Hermèsmatic set up shop in Geneva, Brussles, and Basel. Once it has made its mark on New York, its travel plans include Washington D.C., Nashville, and Los Angeles.
Since the first Hermès silk scarf was commissioned by Robert Dumas in 1937, it has and always will be one of the finest accessories to ever exist, but the dip dye is such a fun way to time stamp it for 2017. See you at the laundromat!
