Last night in Le Skyroom at the French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), supermodel Carolyn Murphy presented the Art de Vivre Award to CR Fashion Book editor in chief, Carine Roitfeld. Established in 2014, the award recognizes visionary leaders from the food, wine, and fashion industries for their contribution to the promotion of French culture.

Raising a glass of champagne, Murphy honored Carine’s effortless French style, dedicated work ethic, role as a working woman, mother, and grandmother, and her relentless loyalty to those whom she loves. Murphy also recalled how Carine has touched her own life: Recognizing the budding potential of an unknown young model from Florida, Carine paved the way for Murphy’s celebrated lasting success in the industry, showering her with advice on everything from how to dress to the best hotel-room exercises.

“She taught me the importance of less is more and good lingerie, even if that meant wearing your bra on the outside of your tee-shirt and cutting your pantyhose and tying them around your neck—very Carine,” said the model to the crowd.

“What I had the pleasure, more importantly, of experiencing in our twenty plus years together, and learning without the push of the button, is that the world consists of visionaries and Carine is truly one of them. She’s never been afraid of taking chances and pushing boundaries,” continued Murphy.

While Carine’s style is quintessentially French and her Parisian accent strong, our eic acknowledged the great embrace she felt when she launched CR in the United States. In her acceptance speech, she said: “Americans help me celebrate my Frenchness. As an immigrant in New York, I have found a new life, a new inspiration, and a very loyal support.”

Unafraid to challenge taboos, embrace pop culture, and stand up for her convictions, Carine continues to strive to take fashion beyond the ordinary and expected. For FIAF president Marie-Monique Steckle, the decision to honor Carine with the fourth annual Art de Vivre Award was an easy one. “We are so thrilled to honor a woman whose daring, provocative expression of French elegance has become a cultural touchstone, taking the world by storm!” she said in a statement.

Following the cocktail celebration, dinner was held at French bistro, Le Bilboquet where guests snacked on pomme-frites and sipped French wine. To round up the evening, an auction was held to raise funds to support FIAF’s effort to teach French, promote Francophone culture, and strengthen the relationship between French and American peoples.
