Everyone’s favorite au pair will take the stage in a musical based on the ‘90s sitcom The Nanny. Over six seasons, the series followed a fashionable nanny from Flushing, New York and her relationship with a wealthy widower and his family. While co-creator, writer, and star of the series Fran Drescher won’t be reprising the beloved Fran Fine, she will be involved in the musical’s production. Drescher and co-creator of the series Peter Marc Jacobson will write the musical’s book.

The production will be directed by Marc Bruni (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) and feature a score by Rachel Bloom and Adam Schlesigner, the duo behind the Emmy-winning musical comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfiend. Father-and-son producers Brian Zeilinger and Scott Zeilinger (Dear Evan Hansen, Mean Girls) will produce the show.

In a statement, Bruni said:

“The Nanny television series began from a familiar theatrical premise—but what if instead of Maria Rainer with her guitar, Fran Fine showed up on the doorstep of a fractured family? Over its six seasons, the show examined class, coming of age, feminism, love, and Broadway with heart and laughs. I am thrilled to be working with Fran, Peter, Rachel, and Adam in bringing these characters to the stage in a fresh new light that I hope will delight fans of the show, as well as capture the imagination of a new generation of theatre-goers.”

The musical has not yet been cast and does not have a production schedule set.
