Underneath the stitchings, the appliqués, the patterns and the pleats, what draws so many of us to fashion is its utter beguilement. It comes to us in the form of a beautiful, fabric machine that allows us to reimagine what we already are and imagine what we can be. So it is only natural that designer Giorgio Armani would choose to exhibit the work of Sarah Moon, the distinguished French fashion photographer known for her painterly style and dreamy, teleporting images that give us viewers in the real world a link to a fantastical one. Moon’s work is being displayed at Armani/Silos, the fashion art museum established to commemorate the designer’s style and career.

The exhibition titled From one season to another spans 40 spectacular years of Moon’s career and includes some of her most famed photographs, as well as lesser known photographs of animals, flowers, and industrial buildings.

“Timelessness and elegance: this is what fascinates me about the work of Sarah Moon,” Armani said about the exhibition. “We are kindred spirits and I have had the pleasure of working with her, discovering a mutual proclivity for simplicity that gets the strongest effect. Her images dialogue wonderfully with the raw solidity of the space.”

Much of Moon’s work is inspired by the concept of time: how brilliantly it evades us as well as how brilliantly we evade it. The exhibition, curated by Moon herself, invites the viewer to interpret the personal poetry she creates through her work and craft their own narratives that resonate most vividly and personally with them.

“I chose to expose a mix of abstract fashion images and less known photographs,” Moon said. “I thank Giorgio Armani for his invitation and the freedom he gave me in this exhibition. I have always appreciated his timeless Couture. We both enjoy the challenge of doing more, with less, and of working with or without color.”

From one season to another opened with the commencement of Milan Fashion Week and is on view at Armani/Silos now through January 6, 2019.
