My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is generally considered to be in the pantheon of Yeezy albums. It’s Kanye’s masterpiece, a sort of rap opera that gives the listener vignettes into the superstar’s psyche. The album’s crescendo is “Runaway”, which is the centerpiece of the film he made to accompany the album. The title for his iconic release seems so fitting that it’s hard to imagine an alternative, but originally it was to be titled Donda’s Boy. This was in homage to his late mother, Donda West, who passed away in 2008 due to plastic surgery complications.

Former Def Jam Records intern Rory Farrell claimed that this was the project’s original title in an interview with podcast “A Waste Of Time.” He says that at he sat in on a meeting of ‘Ye and music executives. In it’s early stages the album was going to be ten songs, each ten minutes long. He also claims that originally “Runaway” was 20 minutes long, and didn’t feature Pusha-T. According to Farrell, the original cut of the album didn’t have any features on it. It seems hard to imagine “All Of The Lights” without Rihanna, but in an alternate universe it could’ve been a reality.

While no one has confirmed or denied Farrell’s story, we’re secretly hoping the original version of the album leaks.
