FEN (Far East Network) er et musikalsk improprosjekt satt sammen av en gruppe med musikere fra ulike deler av Su00f8ru00f8st-Asia. Kvartetten bestu00e5r av Otomo Yoshihide fra Japan, Ryu Hankil fra Korea, Yan Jun fra Kina og Yuen Chee Wai fra Singapore. FEN ble startet opp av musiker Otomo Yoshihide, og gruppen gjorde sin debut i 2008 pu00e5 MIMI-festivalen i Marseilles, Frankrike. Siden den gang har FEN gjennomfu00f8rt store mengder konserter over hele Europa og Asia. Alle medlemmene er artister som har individuelle karrierer innen den eksperimentelle musikkscenen i sine respektive land. FEN har som metode u00e5 ‘opptre sammen gjennom improvisasjon’ og resultatet blir en slags ‘musikk uten en slutt’. Samtidig som at FEN er en improvisatorisk musikk-gruppe arbeider de mu00e5lrettet med idu00e9 og konsept med hu00e5p om u00e5 opprettholde en unik estetikk og bu00e6rekraftige relasjoner mellom de ulike asiatiske kulturene. Prosjektene deres utforsker estetiske grenser gjennom nye former av musikk, som ofte skiller seg ut i den vestlige verden. Mu00e5let til FEN er u00e5 bli en institusjon som organiserer mangfoldige mu00f8ter for u00e5 stu00f8tte bu00e6rekraftige nettverk og kulturelle utvekslinger sammen med andre eksperimentelle musikere og artister i Asia. FEN u00f8nsker u00e5 arbeide med musikere og kunstnere innenfor ulike disipliner, vu00e6re det tradisjonelle eller kontemporu00e6re, fra hele det asiatiske kontintent.

FEN (Far East Network) is an improvised music project group made up of musicians from different parts of Asia. The quartet comprises Otomo Yoshihide (Japan), Ryu Hankil (Korea), Yan Jun (China) and Yuen Chee Wai (Singapore). FEN was started by globally renowned musician Otomo Yoshihide and it made its debut 2008 at MIMI Festival in Marseilles, France. Following its debut, FEN has performed extensively throughout Europe and all across Asia. Each member is an artist who works individually in the experimental music scene in his respective country. FEN pursues ‘performing together by improvisation’ as a method and ‘music without ends’ as an outcome. While FEN is an improvisational music group it is at the same time an idea or concept which hopes to maintain unique aesthetics and sustainable relationships in diverse Asian cultures. FEN’s activities explore aesthetic possibilities in new forms of music which are different from the Western world. FEN’s goals are to become a foundation and to organise diverse meetings to support other sustainable networks and cultural exchanges among many other experimental musicians and artists in and throughout Asia. FEN further hopes to work with musicians and artists of other disciplines, traditional and contemporary, from all across Asia.
