The Driller Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of general labor duties and operating support drilling operations equipment to recover soil samples for geotechnical engineering analysis.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in setting up, taking down and transporting geotechnical drilling rigs and support vehicle equipment for truck-mounted highway type rigs.
- Cleans up drill rig areas and mitigates safety hazards.
- Handles, sorts, and moves drilling tools, pipes, cement, and other materials.
- Manipulates sections of pipe or drill stem at the rig floor during drilling and removal and replaces strings of pipe or drill stem and drill bit using pipe wrenches.
- Maintains drilling equipment on the drill floor and repairs machinery as required.
- Maintains clean exploration department shop environment.
- Transports materials and well service equipment.
- Performs shop or warehouse duties such as general auto maintenance and repairs, drill rig maintenance and repair, grinding and helping with welding and cutting metal, cleaning, and washing trucks and drill rig equipment.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. Associateu2019s degree or advanced training preferred.
- 6 months of related drilling or general mechanical experience preferred. Experience within appropriate discipline (geotechnical, environmental, etc.) strongly preferred.
- Experience driving two-ton trucks with a standard five or six speed transmission preferred.
- Ability to interpret and apply technical information and instructions.
- Ability to complete work under a variety of environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold and rain, as well as working over water.
- Professional-level verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to consistently meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
- Must have a valid driveru2019s license.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- All employees are subject to completing a background check, reference check, and pre-employment physicals and drug/alcohol testing.
- Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities under varying weather conditions and perform heavy manual labor tasks including the ability to stand for long periods of time and exert up to 50 pounds of force repeatedly throughout the day, as well as 100 pounds of force occasionally.
- Ability to perform responsibilities outside of the immediate area. This may require extended overnight travel, for up to two weeks at a time.
- All employees are responsible for conducting their work (office and field) in a safe manner. This includes proactively identifying and resolving potential safety hazards in a timely manner and conducting safety briefings as required by the project. This also includes wearing appropriate safety equipment when working in the field and completing all required health and safety training prior to beginning field work.
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position, located in Spokane WA, is $15.12 – $22.68 per hour. Compensation offered will be based on a variety of individual factors, including education and experience, as well as internal equity. GeoEngineersu2019 salary ranges are reviewed and updated each year and employees are eligible for pay increases based on individual performance. As part of our competitive total rewards package, employees in this role may also be eligible for our annual year-end bonus offering, subject to program eligibility requirements.
