Virgil Abloh has found inspiration in one of fashion’s most beloved It-girls. The Off-White designer has announced that Princess Diana is the muse behind his upcoming Spring 2018 collection. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the late royal’s death and it appears that Virgil (like the rest of the world), has been enjoying the huge influx of media coverage centered around her inimitable life and style legacy.

Abloh broke the news underneath a photograph of his Lady Di-heavy studio moodboard on Instagram. “One woman, 40 Off-White looks in the works come September,” he wrote. A closer look at the post reveals that different areas of the moodboard are dedicated to specific elements of Diana’s style. He’s labeled the sections Charity, Mom, Being a Princess, Night, Young Diana, Countryside Girl, Casual, and Jogging respectively.

Historically, capturing what’s next, new, and hot in pop culture has come easily to Abloh, but this most recent announcement is surprising for a multitude of reasons. Prior to starting Off-White, the designer was Kanye West’s creative director and his debut collection was embraced heavily by the streetwear and hip hop community. All things considered, it’s likely that few can picture what a Princess Diana-inspired Off-White collection will look like—which is exactly why it’s already one of the most anticipated Spring 2018 shows at Fashion Week.
