Seoul’s Split Ends

Streetwear is everywhere in Seoul. From the Times Square-sized tele-screens in the city’s Myeongdong shopping neighborhood to the actual baby bloggers posing around the town. At the Korean capital’s fashion week, one particular look kept popping up throughout the Fall/Winter 2019 shows, well, at least half the time. The half-split technique, in which one piece of clothing is cut down the middle in two and then matched with others of contrasting fabrics, was first popularized on Instagram via kids cutting and sewing opposite Thrasher tees together. Now, it seems the trend has taken the Korean fashion community by storm, covering trenches, puffers, and even dresses this season with dueling effects. Here, CR looks at the top five splits from the week.
