With a strangely mathematical approach to design and no real dressmaking training, Charles James still manages to hold an undeniable cult status amongst the ranks of couture fashion. The Anglo-American designer and his inventive fashion even earned him the unofficial title of “America’s First Couturier.” With no set classification or characterization, James’ dresses ranged from boundary-pushing to elegantly timeless.
