In what feels like a never ending game of fashion musical chairs, Roberto Cavalli has announced its new creative director. British designer Paul Surridge succeeds Peter Dundas at the helm of luxury Italian house, effective immediately. Surridge’s resume includes a stint at Calvin Klein in the ‘90s, as well as a supporting role at Burberry alongside Christopher Bailey from 2003 to 2007. More recently, the designer worked under Raf Simons at Jil Sander and acted as a creative consultant for Acne Studios.
In a statement, Surridge said that he is “honored and proud” to carry the legacy of the Roberto Cavalli: “This is a unique opportunity to contribute a new chapter to the Roberto Cavalli universe, which positively celebrates the beauty, sensuality and power of women. It is my intention to show the passion I share for the codes and vision on which Roberto Cavalli built his brand while celebrating the excellence of Italian craftsmanship.”
The house’s chief executive officer, Gian Giacomo Ferraris added that Cavalli’s management team were in universal agreement when it came to Surridge’s appointment “I have worked with Paul, and I had the opportunity to appreciate his creative talent as well as his managerial abilities,” he said. “Paul has a 360-degree vision on brands and branding. He is passionate, mature and an amazing team player. We all believe that he is the ideal candidate to complete our management team and contribute to implement the ambitious development plans for Roberto Cavalli, which we have agreed with our stakeholders.”
Surridge will unveil his first Roberto Cavalli collection for Spring 2018 at Milan Fashion Week in September.
