What do Carrie Bradshaw and Dita von Teese have in common? They both wore wedding gowns designed by none other Dame Vivienne Westwood.
The consummate fashion rule breaker’s bridal confections feature her signature corsetry, draping, and sense of irreverence. Westwood offers both made-to-order and couture bridal looks inspired by some of her most iconic styles.
Take the bespoke “Ball Tie” dress, for example, a column gown with a 17th century corset and delicate tulle overlay, which was originally worn by Jerry Hall on Westwood’s Fall 1996 runway. Most fashion fans could instantly recognize it in a lineup as a Vivienne Westwood original. It’s just one of the out-of-this-world numbers that appears in this behind the scenes video of the designer’s 2017 bridal collection. “My clothes allow you to project your personality, and are quite theatrical in the sense that they are real clothes, well-designed, and they give you a chance to express yourself,” says Westwood.
