According to sources at Reuters, Clare Waight Keller has stepped down as creative director of the French fashion house Chloé. On deck to replace her is Natacha Ramsay-Levi, held the second-in-command position under designer Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton. Ramsay-Levi worked under Ghesquière at Balenciaga for ten years prior to her time at Louis Vuitton. These same sources have reported that the choice to step down was Keller’s, who decided not to renew her contract that comes to an end this March.
Last year was marked with an increasing amount of fashion house shakeups that kept coming until the end, like the abrupt departure of Public School’s design duo at DKNY. In the past, this type of movement and instability was seen as a bad signal to investors whereas, today, it’s used as a tool to generate buzz around a brand. If today’s news is any indication, we’ll see the trend continue through 2017. Hedi Slimane, we’re waiting for your return!
