We just came back from Kanye’s Yeezy Season 5 show, which gave his attendees zero cause for complaint this time. For starters, the invite itself was a Yeezy sweatshirt. Then at the venue (Pier 59 Studios), his intimate guest list was ushered in and seated immediately
Instead of soundtracking the show with new music of his own, The-Dream singing J. Holiday’s “Bed” (cowritten by Kanye) played on repeat. And instead of a traditional runway format, each model was projected onto a screen from backstage—the up-side being that you got a better visual of each look from every angle. On that front, we have too many compliments to give out because there wasn’t even one look that we wouldn’t wear. We’d gladly opt for any pair of those knee-high boots over a “Boost” and the incorporation of signature Adidas stripes was a welcomed addition this time. He had several good takes on the classics everyone wants right now, like sherpa-lined denim—and every garment had such an ease to it; you won’t have to question how to wear it, or who would wear it. On the “show invites,” and on some of the tops and outerwear the words “Calabasas” and “Lost Hills” were printed throughout, another indicator of the “who” who might have been Kanye’s muse(s).
You might have also noticed the stellar casting, done by our very own casting director Evelien Joos. There were some Kanye regulars like Amina Blue, Duckie, and Braina. And mixed in, were some CR regulars Carlotta Kohl, Hannah Ferguson, Daphne Groeneveld—and our newest face, Halima who we debuted this morning as our CR 10 breakout star.
Lastly, there was the issue of whether or not a Drake collaboration was in the works. A promotional photo that was allegedly attached to one of the invites leaked, leading to rumors that West and Drake had teamed up in some way. Perhaps that’s still to come, but we’re too busy plotting our Yeezy purchases to even care.
