The evening dress has always echoed the electric feeling of a night out, with luxury dripping in the form of sequins and jewels accenting fabrics of satin and velvet. Miu Miu’s Nuit collection by Miuccia Prada revels in just that—a celebration of the little party dress, it’s all in the name. Set upon a familiar backdrop (a fancy bar or elevated club deserted at the moment either before the party has begun or the remnants of an evening already played out), Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott create the scene with a flash referential to a paparazzi photo or images shot in the low lights of place like Studio 54. The intense harsh light captures the effervescence of the details of the dresses, allowing the shine to pop.
The stars of the campaign hold the future of Hollywood in their palms — the next generation of female talent. Ever Anderson, Ciara Bravo, and KiKi Layne all already have a number of impressive roles under their belt. Anderson most recently played the role of young Natasha Romanov in Marvel’s Black Widow, and is casted as the titular role in Disney’s upcoming Peter and Wendy. After years on the small screen, Bravo wow’d many with her performance in the Russo Brothers’ dark film Cherry. As for Layne, since making her debut in the Golden Globe-nominated feature If Beale Street Could Talk she’s gained roles in Netflix’s The Old Guard as well the movie Coming To America 2. Bright futures feel fitting to wear shiny dresses.
The campaign encapsulates a romanticized, fantastical version of a night we all can relate to. Anderson, Bravo, and Layne float between a character and a version of themselves as if to beckon us to join, to play dress up as well. Embroidery and glitter seduce, clinging on black slip dresses and dangling off purses. Why not join the party?
