The time for leisurely sweatpants and sweaters is over. Giambattista Valli Spring/Summer 2022 collection revives romanticism with dresses that allure you to lose yourself in fantastical dreams of princesses and fairies. Play dress up. Plunge into beauty. Be seen.
The show staged at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris utilized simplicity as the backdrop, not unlike the structure of a museum itself, where the art speaks for itself.
The color palette feels pulled from a palace garden or an impressionist painting. Starring whites intertwine with warm reds, bright peaches, and baby pinks with sprinkles of dusty sage and sea foam green. Floral motifs carry throughout the collection, some all-over delicate, dainty patterns reminiscent of watercolor, others stand-alone embroidery. Tulle and ruffles of copious amounts add dreamy elegance. Tweed long-sleeve dresses with regal-inspired necklines detailed with gold appliqué slit up the middle to reveal matching high-waisted boy shorts.
Sheer paneling on tiered mini dresses, elevated bra tops matched with cupcake-like full-length skirts, and exaggerated low necklines hanging on by spaghetti straps give a youthful feel to a traditional design concept. Styling takes modernization a step further with cool, geometric mirco-sunglasses.
