Following the annual gala’s virtual runway presentation and gala last year amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the amfAR gala is back, and so is its famed runway revue. The stars were out at tonight’s 27th annual amfAR Gala at Villa Eilenroc in Antibes for a socially-distanced outdoor gathering including a dinner, auction, musical performances, and a runway show curated by Carine benefiting AIDS/HIV research funding.

Held five miles out of Cannes at the end of the 74th Cannes Film Festival, the non-profit foundation’s flagship event was themed “I am a Movie Star”. Hosted by longtime advocate for AIDS research Sharon Stone, the actress took the time during her address to the audience to call attention to the 40 million people living with AIDS/HIV as an ongoing pandemic still with no definitive cure. Across all industries, celebs like Dylan Penn, Natasha Poly, Orlando Bloom, Regina King, Swizz Beatz, Rachel Brosnahan and Soo Joo Park were spotted at the highly-anticipated event.

Elsewhere, Alicia Keys performed much-loved hits like “New York” and “Fallin’” seated at a grand piano for her first performance since the pandemic. This year’s event honored acclaimed director Spike Lee who was in attendance as one of the gala’s special guests. Various art and luxury pieces were sold during the event’s auction including contemporary British artist Sacha Jafri’s live painting during the auction which raised 1 million euros (.8 million).

The auction concluded with a presentation featuring 32 looks off the runway from today’s top designers. With a lineup of some of the worlds hottest and up-and-coming supermodels, the show tapped into the event’s theme with a paparazzi-themed stage where each model played a starring role in tonight’s show. French designer Christian Louboutin supplied the show with dazzling footwear stepping down the runway. With a lineup of fresh faces and world-renowned supermodels, the runway presentation raised 225,000 euros (5,621) for the foundation’s research.

Though glamour might be at the forefront, the event’s cause is rooted in science and research. Since 1985, amfAR has raised over 0 million investing into AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education, and advocacy programs. The amfAR foundation continues a history of its trailblazing efforts with tonight’s monumental event in both fashion and funding.
