Good morning Upper East Siders, Monse here. Prep school chic perhaps best describes Monse’s latest Fall/Winter 2021 collection inspired by HBO Max’s reboot of Gossip Girl, which originally aired in 2007.
The Gossip Girl-inspired collection used actress, Jordan Alexander as their muse, who plays Julien in the reboot series. The characters in the show can often be seen sporting looks from the collection. Just months ago, Creative Directors of the brand Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia were in communication with Gossip Girl’s costume department and show’s stylist, Eric Daman, to feature looks from the collection.
HBO Max even decided to use the brand’s upcoming collection as an anchor for the premiere of the show, hosting an event where guests were able to view the runway show live and the pilot episode of the Gossip Girl reboot.
Monse’s preppy-meets-punk collection definitely takes inspiration from how Gen Z styles their outfits with the deconstructed uniform look. The collection is filled with Kim and Garcia’s take on tailored prep school looks: playful knits, oversized varsity jackets, pleated skirts, and lots of layering. If only all school uniform looks could be Monse, a Gossip Girl could dream.
