JW Anderson has officially unveiled a brand new collaboration with sunglass brand Persol, and it’s summer-ready like nothing else we’ve seen before.
The mark of a successful collaboration is a balanced blend of both parties, and JW Anderson x Persol celebrates that spirit of integrated creation with both sunglass styles that are being released. The 649 by JW Anderson is a colorful, limited edition pair with contemporary notes, made with recycled acetate offcuts from the production chain to give new life to materials that would have otherwise gone to waste. These Persol frames are made of reused scrap materials that, when reintroduced into the production process, give each frame a unique acetate color.
The second style in this collaboration is the Persol 0009, an avantgarde four-lens frame in two-toned colorways chosen exclusively by Anderson. The 0009 color palette focuses on juxtaposition, offering blue and pink, black and white, dark and light green, or orange and light blue. This practical yet light-hearted style is finished off with both a JW Anderson logo and signature Persol temple tips.
Tyler Mitchell photographed eight portraits of the sunglasses in various styles, collaborating with stylist Benjamin Bruno and hairstylist Jawara who contributed sculptural hairstyles to frame and highlight each pair. Jonathan Anderson released a statement saying, “I really wanted to work with Tyler. He is such an incredible artist and photographer. I wanted images that became kind of poetic miniatures, almost like windows. I love what Jawara does as well. His hairstyles are amazing and helped creature this incredible portraiture that you somehow can’t place in time.”
The designer gave fans a sneak peek of this Persol x JW Anderson collaboration in his Spring/Summer 2022 collection with a pair of dark sunglasses that can be spotted on a model wearing an oversized strawberry-printed hoodie. Anderson stays true to both the DNA of the Persol brand and his modus operandi of approaching classic craftsmanship through a fresh lens (no pun intended!) and in doing so, steps forward in his designs while honoring timeless styles. The teaser frames featured in the JW Anderson SS 2022 collection hinted at a future partnership of two eclectic, forward-thinking entities that has culminated in a wildly enjoyable, unexpected collection.
The collaboration will be available for purchase starting on July 17 on Persol.com, JWAnderson.com, Persol boutiques, and the JW Anderson London flagship store. All other Persol styles can be browsed here.
