When Matthew Williams first began his stint as Givenchy’s Creative Director just over a year ago, the internet exploded. Pictures of a tattooed, shirtless new designer leading Givenchy signaled a new era for the house: one geared toward a younger, edgier audience. He’s worked with Kanye West, Kim Jones, and Virgil Abloh in the past to create instant cult-favorite pieces. And since then, he has continued to keep Givenchy chic through his unique aesthetic of balancing savoir-faire and streetwear.
Made for the powerful and elegant, Williams’ Givenchy is visually strong yet still wearable: much of his design is inspired by pieces he’d actually wear. But he’s not the only one who’d wear them — though he’s been at the house just over a year, Kim Kardashian West, Kate Moss, Naomi, and Bella Hadid have all been supporters from the get-go.
While some fans are hoping for Kendall Jenner or Hadid to return to the Givenchy runway, even louder fans are begging for a Playboi Carti appearance. The two have collaborated together before, specifically working together to promote Williams’ Givenchy debut collection prior to its launch.
On July 2, Williams will showcase his latest creations for the house via his Spring 2022 Pre-Collection. The show will include a men’s and women’s collection, and if the past is any indication, we should expect rebellious, elevated pieces from the Millennial designer.
