CR Exclusive: R13 Gets Funky with Notorious B.I.G.-Inspired Drop

Clad in coogi sweaters with Versace shades always on, Biggie Smalls’ fashion influence is almost as powerful as his music legacy. To celebrate the Brooklyn-born rapper—who would have been 47 this spring—Brooklyn-based designer Chris Leba looked back in time for a special run of R13 Denim‘s Spring/Summer 2019 collection.

Highlighting some of the musician’s most iconic moments in history, the designer printed these archival images onto unisex, tee’s and hoodies with more than enough wiggle room. The throwback pieces, which are available online now, are matched by a youthful collection chock full of rainbow tie-dye pieces and grungy, ripped denim, of course, an R13 signature.

While hip-hop isn’t the first thing that comes to mind for a brand more fated toward rock ‘n’ roll, the clash of underground cultures gives the collab a wild, punkish element that is so unexpected that somehow it just works.
