On April 28, 1916, Ferruccio Lamborghini was born in the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. Before Lamborghini lent his name to the renowned high-performance sports car, he founded a business in a post-war environment of making tractors from scrap military machines. Lamborghini’s great success as a mechanic allowed him to purchase a variety of luxury sports cars, including a Ferrari, considered the top sports car of the time. He saw flaws in his new sports car, prompting him to start his eponymous rival sports car company. Automobili Lamborghini was officially established in 1963, launching its first car that same year, the Lamborghini 350 GTV, a two-seater coupe with a V12 engine. The iconic logo of the company depicts a bull, a nod to Lamborghini’s zodiac sign, Taurus. Celebrating Taurus season on what would’ve been Lamborghini’s 77th birthday, CR looks back at the Lamborghini sports car and the celebrities who made it a pop culture spectacle.
