The Top 10 Films of 2018

There’s been a debate raging in film circles lately about whether or not there is such thing as a „good“ or a „bad“ year for film. While the verdict is out on that, 2018 has certainly been a very exciting one, producing many films that have been hailed as masterpieces from countries including South Korea, Mexico, Poland, and U.S. alike. It was an epic year for the exploding of genre, with filmmakers Steve McQueen and Lynne Ramsay building thrillers into high art, the Coen Brothers investigating the classic tropes of the western and dividing them into chapters, and even Bradley Cooper making his feature debut with an old-fashioned rock and roll romance with A Star Is Born. Even with all this excitement, this batch of films managed to rise to the top of the pack due to their alchemical understanding of what it is that makes a movie great: humor, fear, momentum, visual impact, the surprise of emotion, and a statement about the world we live in now. These are the top 10 movies of 2018.
