After a year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2022 Pirelli calendar is back and it’s bringing the starpower for its 48th edition.

This year, the annual calendar taps into music’s biggest names across generations with Canadian photographer Bryan Adams capturing a behind-the-scenes look at what it means to be a performer for the world’s audiences. “On the road is where I have been for the last 45 years, because the life of a musician is made up of roads, travel, waiting in hotels, hours backstage,” said Adams.

Starring Cher, Grimes, Jennifer Hudson, Normani, Rita Ora, Bohan Phoenix, Iggy Pop, St. Vincent, Kali Uchis, and Saweetie, the artists were shot primarily in Los Angeles at some of the city’s hallmark locations like the iconic Chateau Marmont and Palace Theater. Elsewhere, Saweetie was shot in Capri overlooking the Gulf of Naples on the scenic balcony at the Hotel La Scalinatella.

The calendar brings together a collection of artists across all different backgrounds and genres giving a peak at what it’s truly like to be backstage, whether sitting and getting your makeup done with Cher or emerging from the velvet curtain with Jennifer Hudson.

With artistic direction by Dirk Rudolph, each shoot has a playing role in the calendar’s theme: “In The Morning: St. Vincent”, “Arriving at the show: Jennifer Hudson”, “In the Green Room: Cher”, “Moment Of Creativity: Bohan Phoenix”, “Downtime Post Show: Rita Ora”, “After Show Celebration: Iggy Pop”, “Ready to continue the tour: Saweetie”, “Downtime / In The Swimming Pool: Kali Uchis”, “Getting Ready: Normani”, and “Producing and creating: Grimes”.

“On the Road” marks the return of the Pirelli calendar which is set to come out later this year in November. Until then, we’ll be maintaining groupie status.
