Last night’s MTV Movie & TV Awards marked a momentous occasion in pop culture history. For the first time-ever, there was no differentiation between actors based on their gender. Instead, male, female, and gender non-binary talent competed for all of the top awards in the acting category. Of the night’s big winners, Emma Watson beat out Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Taraji P. Henson, and more for the title of ‘Best Actor in a Movie’ for her lead role in Beauty and the Beast and Millie Bobby Brown took home the award for ‘Best Actor in a Show’ for her lead in Netflix’s instant cult-classic, Stranger Things.

Elsewhere at the awards ceremony, Ashton Sanders and Jharrel Jerome won ‘Best Kiss,’ for their tender moment in director Barry Jenkins’ gay coming-of-age movie, Moonlight and RuPaul’s Drag Race won the trophy for ‘Best Reality Competition.’ The television show, which recently moved to VH1, first aired in 2009 and tasks 13 ‘cutthroat queens’ to compete for the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar and a cash prize of 0,000 each season.
