In addition to performances at various music festivals this summer, it’s been announced that Solange will present an interdisciplinary performance piece at the Guggenheim Museum in New York on May 18th. The already sold-out event is titled An Ode To and is based on her 2016 album, A Seat at the Table. Throughout the performance, Solange will meditatively expand on themes from the record via dance, an interactive installation, and experimentation through unorthodox music arrangements.
Those lucky enough to have already scored a ticket can expect to see and hear reimagined versions of Solange’s most critically-acclaimed songs from within the Guggenheim’s iconic rotunda. The museum is no stranger to hosting performances that fuse the worlds of art and music; Last Fall, the museum’s Young Collector’s Council hosted a pre-party for the Guggenheim International Gala with Dior. The party featured a creative performance from alternative pop artist, Banks.
Solange’s one-off event is part of the 2017 Red Bull Academy of Music Festival, which includes a five-week series of performances and lectures around New York City. Other performances for this year’s festival include CR Men’s Book cover star, Gucci Mane accompanied by Zaytoven on the piano on May 16th at an undisclosed location. The full festival runs from April 29 to May 21 and tickets are on sale now.
