Somebody pinch us! The Spice Girls are reportedly working on a sequel to their 1997 cult-classic film, Spice World and we’re shaking at the news of this groundbreaking reunion.
Having met with a screenwriter, the girl group has already begun the beginning stages of production. According to a film industry source, the girl group “has been talking about how to mark the film’s anniversary and are actively considering making a tongue-in-cheek sequel.” The project is meant to mark Spice World’s 25th anniversary next year so get ready to dust off those movie theatre seats because you’ll want to see this in all it’s kitschy glory. The movie is being spear headed by the current band’s Manager, Ginger Spice (aka Geri Halliwell) while Sporty (Mel C), Baby (Emma Bunton), and Scary Spice (Mel B) have tentatively given the green-light.
And while it’s still in its early stages, the girl group “are talking to established names in the business, which proves they are taking a big screen comeback seriously.” Which is great news for us fangirls and boys who can only watch some many re-runs of their nostalgic music videos.
It also seems like the platinum group is leaving no band member behind—having extended an invitation to former band mate, Victoria Beckham. The infamous Posh Spice notably decided to opt out of their 2019 reunion tour to focus on family and her fashion line. While the designer turned down a 13-date sellout tour, the pop singers are hoping the script will entice their fifth member to return to her rightful place.
The rambunctious group has been known to deliver projects to the beat of their own drum, but if there’s one thing we can rely on, it’s their collective dedication to the Spice Girl brand. While members have historically come and gone, their girl power and friendship always proves strong enough for a reunion.
Amassing more than million in box office sales, Spice World became the highest-grossing movie of all time by a musical group. With a star-studded cast including Elton John, Elvis Costello, Roger Moore, and so many more, their on-screen debut made quite a splash. Filled with dream sequences, flashbacks, and some of the most memorable one-liners, there’s no question this coming sequel will be equally as wild. If there’s anything we want, what we really really want, it’s Spice World 2.END
