CR Exclusive: Rodarte Designers on the Importance of Kirsten Dunst’s Dresses in New Film

In Kate and Laura Mulleavy’s dreamy directorial debut, “Woodshock,” the Rodarte designers looked to costumer Christie Wittenborn to fashion emotional looks for their haunting story of loss. Starring Kirsten Dunst as Theresa, the film—which hits theaters starting today—dances between the real and psychological worlds, exploring how a drug-enduced state can affect the overall emotional mind. Reflective of Rodarte’s own ethereal collections, the designers point to Theresa’s filmic wardrobe as a tangible following point in the movie. “Clothing is something that people are drawn to and connect to,” the Mulleavys say. “We use it as a means of defining who we are and our understanding of the world around us.” In this CR-exclusive video filmed at the ArcLight in Hollywood, the duo divulge more about their creative process with Wittenborn, who the sisters say brought “brought an intuitive understanding” to showcase the psychology of each character on screen.
