While fans may not be getting an album anytime soon, Rihanna is releasing the next best thing… a Fenty fragrance.
Created as a versatile and genderless scent, Fenty Eau de Parfum is an aromatic blend of spicy-meets-sweet. Wearing the fragrance will transport you to places and memories that inspired Rihanna in its creation, notably Barbados, France, New York, and Los Angeles.
“That’s the thing I love the most: it’s an experience, it’s a memory, encapsulated into a fragrance. One smell, you’ll never forget it,” shared Rihanna, whose passion for perfume began at a young age. Having been exposed to the power of a signature scent by her mother who worked in the beauty industry, Rihanna’s entrance within fragrance is no surprise.
Not to mention that perfume is far more lucrative than clothing. Recently acquired by LVMH, the Fenty brand is on quite an upward expansion. After success in the lingerie industry and blowing up in the beauty world, fragrance was the logical next step. Fenty’s original Instagram account has disappeared after a long period of inactivity, clarifying that the corporation plans to prioritize cosmetics. LVMH’s renowned perfumer, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, collaborated with Rihanna in Grasse, France’s fragrance capital, to meaningfully curate Fenty Eau de Parfum.
Magnolia, musk, tangerine, blueberry, Bulgarian rose absolute, geranium, and patchouli comprise the unique recipe of the fragrance. Its vessel is a bottle that purely represents Rihanna, even designed to fit perfectly in her hand. Amber-brown glass features Rihanna’s favorite color, while its vintage look is coupled with the modernity of balancing different gender aesthetics.
“I wanted a rich color that really represented all genders from across all walks of life. Brown is my favorite color. Brown is who I am. Brown is what I come from. If I’m going to make a fragrance that represents me, even the body language of the bottle needs to marry that,” explained Rihanna. “So, I wanted something brown, but also transparent — so you could see the liquid and the fragrance you’re about to experience.”
