As the masks come off and the sun comes out, the start of the summer has been all about reinventing our beauty looks for the warmer weather and our newly exposed faces.

For Dior Resort 2022, Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri envisioned an magnificent runway display for the house’s most grand show since the start of the pandemic. Staged at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, the catwalk alone is around a five minute walk entirely around, “it’s olympic” said Dior Makeup’s Creative and Image Director Peter Philips, the makeup maestro behind the show’s ethereal beauty looks.

During his briefing with Chiuri before the looks for the show were created, Philips said he was given an inspiration photo of a model with wet hair wearing pearls. “Everything is white and very light, you can imagine draping on greek sculptures, but there’s also a sporty element that comes over the whole collection. We thought pearls maybe weren’t the right thing, but I thought, let’s play,” said Philips.

Delicate pearls took a surrealist approach for the show’s beauty looks with Philips creatively dotting dainty pearl face jewels around the eye varying the design from model to model in an ode to the Evil Eye promoting show’s theme of Greek antiquity. “The Greek eye is an important gift you can’t buy,” said Philips. “One it has to be given the evil eye and it will give you good luck, so I thought why not give a surrealist take on the Greek eye.”

The makeup itself was kept minimal and fresh not taking away from the applied pearls.
“Every girl has the same look with slight variations, very luminous and natural, easy to wear,” he said. Philips utilized the house’s limited edition 5 Couleurs Couture Cruise 2022 palette in a series of sandy golds and pearlescent shades which is offered on a see-now-buy-now opportunity for just 72 hours following the show. “I wanted a relaxed palette that you can have with you on a cruise. Something beautiful and flattering which is not too intimidating and easy to wear,” said Philips.

Philips kept things quite simple on the rest of the face embracing an effortless getaway look. Prepping the face with Dior Prestige La Micro-Lotion de Rose, Dior Prestige Le Micro-Sérum de Rose Yeux, and Dior’s Lip Sugar Scrub, Philips used the iconic Dior Backstage Face and Body Primer and Foundation finished off with Dior’s talc-free Backstage Powder-no-Powder for flawless skin that rivals that of a Grecian goddess’. Elsewhere, lips were kept natural with the foolproof Dior Addict Lip Glow 000 in Universal Clear to top things off.
