Julien Malaussena is a composer based in Paris. Through his music Julien develops a categorisation and a grammar of the different sound behaviours, which he calls “articulated sound energy”. He describes this as something which is less quantifiable than for instance pitch, time or sound space, and which simultaneously straddles all of these other elements. His attention is focused on both the direction (or absence of direction) and the degree of tension inherent in each sound entity, and through that, their capacity for articulation and connections. His compositions have been performed by a long list of ensembles in both France and internationally.
