This Saturday, the legendary Italian house Fendi is opening the doors of its headquarters in Rome, Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, to the public. Specifically, it is welcoming visitors to see an exhibition celebrating the unique talent and creativity of Italy’s artisans, which will run until November 28.

Dubbed the “Hand in Hand” exhibit, it will showcase the skills of select creators, using Fendi’s iconic Baguette handbag as the centerpiece. The brand’s artistic director for accessories and men’s wear Silvia Venturini Fendi has developed twenty one-of a-kind Baguette bags in-collaboration with twenty respective ateliers and workshops, each from a different Italian region, from Puglia and Toscana, to Emilia Romagna and Sicily. Thus, each bag features a distinct design, showcasing special techniques, including weaving, hand embroidery, and mosaic, as well as varying types of precious metals, stones, and leather.

In addition to the exquisitely crafted Baguette bags, the exhibition will offer an immersive experience that will not only utilize high-tech mediums, but, likewise, honor the traditions upon which Italy’s esteemed fashion reputation has been built. Therefore, a 98.4-foot polished black table will display each individual bag as well as the sketches, materials and technical tools used to create it in a distinct “workstation.” Meanwhile, a screen molded into each respective station will stream a documentary about each atelier. Behind the table there will be a giant LED wall, where another video will run behind-the-scene footage of the project and the stories of the selected artisans.

For this weekend only, the creators themselves will be in-attendance at the exhibition to meet visitors face-to-face at their designated workstations. However, in the following weeks they will also be at the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, but virtually on the LED wall. Thus, everyone who comes to see the exhibition will be able to put a face to and interact with some of Italy’s most esteemed creative talents.

Aside from being a fascinating exploration of the beloved Baguette bag, the Hand in Hand exhibit is, at its core, a true celebration of Italy’s heritage. Since its inception, Fendi has been careful to honor and preserve the traditions and evolution of its home country’s artisanal heritage. With this exhibition, it not only continues to pay homage to this history, but also … bringing it into the future, the Fendi way.

The Fendi Hand in Hand exhibit will run from October 30 to November 28 at the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana.
